Jail and poor house report, 1899.

The State Board of Health required each county board of health to exercise general superintendance over jails and poorhouses (Ala. Code, 1-58-2430, [1896]). This record consists of a statistical report on the county board's findings during inspections of jails and poorhouses. Information contained in this record consists of facility condition, number of inhabitants per month by race, number of deaths per month by race, average number of inhabitants and deaths for the year, and total number of inhabitants and deaths for the year. This information is contained on one form, the Jail and Poor House Report. This series consists of reports from Escambia County and Winston County.
