Finding aids, 1901- .

Finding aids are created by employees of the dept. to establish physical or intellectual and administrative control over the dept.'s holdings. Types of finding aids in the Archives include card catalogs, inventories, shelf and box lists, guides, indexes, and software documentation. Collections in the Archives for which finding aids are created include state and local government records, private records, books, museum artifacts, microfilm, and bound newspapers. As the Archives is constantly updating their collections and creating additional storage space, finding aids have a limited life.
