Thes items are notarized copies of transcriptions by the clerks of Essex County, Va., H. Southworth, and William B. Mathews, made by James Mercer Garnett in 1905. The earliest of the three Garnett wills dated Oct. 17, 1713, is that of John Garnett (Garnet), which leaves property to his wife Ann, and three sons: James, John, and Anthony, and Thomas Garnett and William Taylor. James Garnett's will, dated August 17, 1765, mentions his two sons, James and Muscoe, a daughter, Betty, two grandsons, Augustine and Harry, and two granddaughters, Sarah and Milly. Muscoe Garnett's will, dated April 15, 1800, mentions sons James Mercer, John Mercer, Muscoe, Mercer, and William.
