United Methodist Church (U.S.) North Georgia Conference administrative files, 1707-1989.

This collection consists of a variety of records created at the conference level of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, as well as the preceding denominations, the Methodist Episcopal Church (M.E.C.), the Methodist Episcopal Church, South (M.E.C.,S.), and the Methodist Church. They are arranged by the type of activities that generated the records and then chronologically. The majority of the Annual Conference (1923-1989) and the national General Conference (1883-1980) records consist of handbooks, programs, and handouts, in addition to correspondence regarding meeting arrangements. Information about ministerial qualifications, appointments, and disciplinary action is included in the Clergy series (1707-1976). Of interest to the researcher are the accusations of financial mismanagement made against the Rev. J. S. Stewart, who was at one time treasurer of the Board of Missions of the North Georgia Conference. Both the Board of Stewards (1790-1847) and Financial (1881-1974) series contain information on conference accounts. The Treasurer's record book within the latter series are from the Georgia Conference of the Central Jurisdiction, covering the years before its integration with the North Georgia Conference. The Board of Trustees minutes within the Property (1951-1960) series deal mainly with the Wesley Memorial building.
