Josiah TItzell memorial collection on Savannah and Georgia history, 1817-1945.

This collection consists of manuscripts, pamphlets, and maps that Josiah Titzell was collecting at the time of his death as research for a book he was writing on Savannah and Georgia, as well as a large amount of correspondence. The letters from Daniel Dodd to John Ward discuss engines for steamships; Dodd (1778-1823) made the machinery for the S.S. Savannah when she was converted from sail to steam. Israel Keech (I.K.) Tefft wrote to Robert Lemon concerning plans for copying historical documents in London for the Georgia Historical Society; Tefft was the corresponding secretary for the society and Lemon was the Chief Clerk of H.M. State Paper Office in London. The letters to W.B. Tinsley, a cashier for the Bank of Savannah in 1861, concern accounts, notes, etc. The Titzell-Silva letters cover such subjects as Titzell's gifts to the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences, his and his wife's writings and the publication of his Galanty Show, a poem written by Silva, and a Christmas card from 1943, containing a verse by Titzell.
