Rev. William James Byron was born in on May 25, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Philadelphia, and after service in the U.S. Army's 508th Parachute Infantry, he attended St. Joseph's College and joined the Jesuits in 1950. He earned degrees in philosophy and economics from St. Louis University, two theology degrees from Woodstock and a Doctorate in economics from the University of Maryland.
