Sarah Helen Power Whitman (January 19, 1803 – June 27, 1878) was an American poet, essayist, transcendentalist, spiritualist and a romantic interest of Edgar Allan Poe. Whitman was born in Providence, Rhode Island on January 19, 1803, exactly six years before Poe's birth. She was the daughter of Nicholas Power. Josiah K. Lilly, Jr. was born in Indianapolis, Ind. in 1893. He joined the family buiness, Eli Lilly and Co., in 1914. In 1944, he became president of the newly formed Eli Lilly International Corporation, and in 1948, president of the Eli Lilly Company.
