Richard Hughes letters, 1921-1969.

The collection consists of fifteen letters, including: three letters to the editor of the Saturday Evening Post, all 1921, accompanying short stories submitted for publication; all three include carbon copies of the editor's replies; two letters to Dear sir, no year given but circa 1920s, about selling copies of his book, both with unsigned replies; to Mrs. Selous, 23 Jan., no year but circa 1930, thanking her for her hospitality when he visited Casablanca, mentioning his illness after eating a prickly pear, and describing a map of Morocco that might be suitable for her husband's collection; three letters to David Garnett, 1955-1961, inviting him to his daughter's eighteenth birthday party, later inviting him to his son's twenty-first birthday party, and commenting on Garnett's description of England in 1914 being on the brink of Civil War, written in connection with Hughes' unfinished trilogy of novels, The Human Predicament; to Professor Bracker, from Hughes' secretary, circa 1969, commenting on similarities noted between A High Wind in Jamaica and William Golding's Lord of the Flies.
