This series comprises records concerning the Lutheran Deaconess Home and Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, which were collected and retained by the Deaconess Community of the Lutheran Church in America (LCA) and later its successor, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Dates are from 1898-1997. Record types include papers of incorporation, by-laws, rules and regulations, annual reports, correspondence, court finding, booklets, pamphlets, reports, application form, lists of deaconesses, obituary clippings, orders of services, and picture postcards. The materials are printed or typed, although one paper has a handwritten paragraph inserted. The materials are in English except for the annual report of 1898 which is in Norwegian. Of interest are the booklets on the history of the LDHC, and the court findings concerning the case contesting the sale of Lutheran Deaconess Hospital. The condition of the materials ranges from fair to excellent.
