Collection comprises the papers of American architect and urban planner Paul Lester Wiener, including architectural and urban planning records for projects undertaken in Latin America, South America, Middle East, and U.S., 1934-1965; speeches, manuscripts of articles, book proposals, biographical information, and a bibliography of works by and about Wiener; and incoming and outgoing correspondence with professional associates and staff, 1913-1968. Architectural and urban planning records are arranged by project and include plans, drawings, specifications, photographs, research materials and memoranda. Major correspondents include José Luis Sert, Paul Schulz and Richard Bender.

Paul Lester Wiener (1895-1967) was an American architect and urban planner. Born in Germany and educated in Berlin, Vienna and Paris, Wiener emmigrated to the United States in 1913 and became a citizen in 1919. In 1937, Wiener designed the U.S. Government building and interiors for the International Exposition in Paris, for which he was awarded three grand prizes. Josep Lluis Sert received a degree in architecture in 1929 from Barcelona's ESA in the 1930s. Among the leading young Spanish architects in the 1930s, he gained an international reputation with his design for the Spanish Pavilion built for the 1937 Paris Exposition. Emigrating to the United states in 1941, he was from 1941-1958 a founding partner in Town Planning Associates and in 1955, he opened his own firm, Sert Jackson, & Associates, in Cambridge, MA.
