Agriculturalist, Politician Cassius M. Clay, Jr., the youngest son of Brutus Clay, was born in 1846. Like his namesake, the younger Cassius attended Yale University, graduating in the class of 1866. He served in both houses of the Kentucky General Assembly in the 1870's and 1880's. He presided at the convention held in the 1890 and 1891 which drew up a new state constitution. Francis P. Blair, 1791-1876, was an influential Kentucky politician, and later, a Washington, D.C. newspaper editor. In 1814, Blair held the position of Franklin County Circuit Court Clerk, and in the 1820's was appointed Clerk of the New Court of Appeals. When the New Court collapsed, Blair became a writer for Amos Kendall's Argus of the Western America. Green Clay was born in Powhaton County, Virginia, and emigrated to Kentucky in 1777. A surveyor, he amassed a vast land estate, settling in Madison County. A Kentucky legislator and soldier, he served as major general in Kentucky Militia during the War of 1812.
