Edgar Bonham-Carter was a jurist and legal administrator who was very active in creating or improving codes of laws in several Middle Eastern countries. Born in London and educated at Clifton College and Oxford University, he was called to the bar by Lincoln's Inn in 1895. He was selected to devise a set of laws for the Sudan, and succeeded famously; he held similar offices in Baghdad and Mesopotamia.
