Description: Personal papers of Edwin W. Siefert who served as an assistant professor of machine drafting at Stout teaching classes in topography, machine mechanical design, and general drafting from 1950 to 1979. The collection contains handouts, lecture notes, course outlines and tests by Siefert for classes in civil and highway technology, drafting, dynamics, excavation, machine design, map reading, surveying and topography. In addition, there are papers related to Siefert's involvement with the Mapping Institute of Pigeon Lake and the Northwest Wisconsin Chapter of the Society of Land Surveyors Seminar. Also included are speeches and papers presented by Siefert at various conferences and seminars. The bulk of the material spans the period 1960-1978.

Agency History: The origins of the Graphic Communications Department began with the arrival of Charles E. Eslinger who was placed in charge of "Printing, Primary Handwork" in 1912. In 1919, C.W. Hague came to Stout to teach printing. He, in turn, was replaced by William Baker in 1933. Baker had additional duties handed to him when he was placed in charge of Printing and Publications.
