[Letter], 1870 Dec. 22, Portland, Me., [to] Turner & Co., Boston.

Hollinger writes to Turner & Co., proprietary medicine manufacturers, "The horrid sufferings caused by the use of your 'Neuralgic Pill' compel me to write to you to inform you that you are causing more sickness than cures by that infamous article." After consuming three boxes of the remedy, Hollinger claims to have suffered "paralysis of the brain," and stopped use of the medication. He further informs Turner & Co. that he has performed his own analysis of the remedy and has found "enough mercury in two pills to whiten the face of a small copper cent!!" He concludes, "If there is any permanent injury a suit for damages will be instituted."
