William Woodwell Stuart diaries, 1909-1970.

Diaries kept by Stuart from his apprenticeship days at the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Co. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania through the week of his death in 1970. The diaries contain notes about Stuart's work and leisure activities, and document interactions he and his wife, Jean (Clark) Stuart, had with friends, relatives and business associates. Diary entries describe plays, concerts and motion pictures Stuart attended and name books that he was reading. The 1922 diary provides a good account of the challenges of automobile travel at the time. Later diaries describe Stuart's Des Moines residence which he built in the 1950s featuring many of his own installations.

Stuart was a Des Moines, Iowa heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) engineer and inventor. He operated an HVAC supply business in Des Moines. Working as a manufacturer's agent he acquired 13 patents on heating and cooling devices. He led an active social life and was a member of several Des Moines clubs including the Hermit Club, the Des Moines Club and the Des Moines Pioneer Club.
