Collection consists of manuscript letters to Barton from French diplomats and others while in Europe working on the Prussian war relief effort, 1871; a manuscript list of women who worked at a Strasburg garment workshop created by Barton to provide employment and support, 1871; letters from Barton to Harriette Reed, her secretary Mary Kensel Wells, and others, 1894-1910; a manuscript poem, possibly written by Barton; and a Tribute and Biography of Clara Barton written by Wells, c. 1921.

On December 2, 1905, Mrs. Tunis G. Bergen brought together a group of Brooklyn residents at the Barnard Club House on Remsen Street to form New York City's first borough-based Red Cross organization.
