La frontera [videorecording] = The frontier / Juan Downey. [1976]

Through poetry and visual collage, La frontera contrasts elements of everyday life with political upheaval in Chile. Original footage of the rural region where Pablo Neruda was born is intercut with mass-media images of military uprising and guerrilla conflict. The soundtrack contains long silent passages interspersed with environmental sounds, poems by Neruda, and excerpts of a talk given by Neruda at Columbia University in 1971.
