Record Series 5100D-001, Savannah Fire and Emergency Services Collection, Frank Cook (1898-circa 2000, no date), includes records, manuscript materials, visual materials, and artifacts related to the history of the Savannah Fire and Emergency Services Bureau (formerly the Savannah Fire Department) gathered and collected by Frank Cook in his capacity as Battalion Chief and unofficial fire department historian. The materials were gathered from a wide range of sources by Cook, including former firefighters and fire officials, in an effort to safe-guard historical items until an appropriate repository could be found. The majority of the materials in this record series are originals, and include both items that are official records of the Bureau and manuscript materials that have always resided in private collections. Sub-Series 4, Visual Materials (circa 1915-circa 2000), includes color and black and white photographs, as well as a few technical drawings (356 photographs, 245 negatives, 26 drawings). These materials document various companies, equipment and personnel. The identifications of individuals in the older company photographs came from retired firefighters and/or fire department year books. Most of the color photographs were taken by Frank Cook and record fires, retirement and awards ceremonies, and training. Some of these photographs have negatives; however not every photograph has a negative, nor does every negative have a photograph. Sample negatives without photographs (with fire department related content) were scanned and printed. The photographs are arranged alphabetically in the following categories: Equipment, Fires/Rescues, Personnel, Public Service, Special Events, Stations, and Training. Within each group, the photographs are in general chronological order by decade. The technical drawings are of the tug Dozier and the dredge boat Henry Bacon. The tug Dozier later became the fire department's fireboat Edward J. Fogarty.
