This sketchbook appears to be part of Gell's research for the 1832 revised edition of Pompeiana. The drawings in pen, ink and watercolor include general views, architectural details, frescoes, mosaics, house plans, inscriptions and objects from the site. The sketchbook also includes extensive notes for the new edition. Both the drawings and the notes focus on material discovered during the excavations conducted between 1826 and 1829.
