Luther Cressman papers, 1930-1990.

Collection includes personal papers, professional papers, publications, field notes, slides and negatives of Luther Cressman (1897-1994), an anthropologist and University of Oregon professor who focused on prehistoric man in Oregon. Personal papers includes media related to the controversy over anthropologist Margaret Mead, who was Cressman's first wife, and her research in Samoa, including an editorial by Cressman. Collection also includes field journals, photographs, and other material related to Cressman's research at Fort Rock Cave in Oregon, where he discovered bark sandals determined to be 10,000 years old, and Catlow Caves. Collection includes correspondence and manuscripts related to Cressman's publications, which included a volume of memoirs and works on prehistoric man in Oregon and the West.
