John Treat Irving letter to Dr. G.M. Smith, 1887 July 30.

Recalls stays at New England hotels with Smith and his family, and regrets that they were not together in Stowe, Vt., this summer; thanks Smith for his kind remarks about the writer's newly published book, The Van Gelder papers, many of the stories in which were written 30 or 40 years before under the pseudonym "John Quod".
