Jennie D. Lindquist papers, 1937-1978.

Includes correspondence with Helen T. Fay (Mrs. Joseph Juneman, b. 1897), Eleanor M. Foote (1897-1975), and others, 1942-76; transcripts of her New Hampshire radio program "Good Books for Boys and Girls", 1944-45; promotional and other printed materials pertaining to "The Hornbook Magazine"; and a publisher's advanced copy of Lingquist's book "The Crystal Tree" (New York: Harper and Row, 1966). Also includes manuscripts (principally, "Miss Hickory" (ca. 1946), by Carolyn Sherwin Bailey [1875-1961]), galleys, proofs, and other materials illustrating the writing, illustration, and manufacture of children's books, which were retained by Helen T. Fay for her public lectures on children's books. Fay was a graduate of the New York State College for Teachers, Albany, New York (BA, 1919; MA, 1927) and managed its bookstore, 1920-37. Professionally, she interviewed authors, reviewed and lectured on children's literature, and was co-proprietor with Eleanor M. Foote of the John Mistletoe Bookshop, Albany, New York.

Biographical note: Children's writer and editor. Lindquist was a staff member of the Horn Book (the Boston publisher) from 1948 to 1958 and was editor of its "Horn Book Magazine". She was also head of the Children's Department at the Albany Public Library, a lecturer and librarian at the University of New Hampshire, and worked in the John Mistletoe Bookshop, Albany, New York.
