Grant fees paid, 1836-1842.

These three volumes are each divided into different sections for the recording of fees collected for all types of land grants. The individual sections, as many as eighteen in one volume, record monies received for fees paid in all six lotteries and the headright area. In addition, recorded are fees paid for testimonials and copies of grants sold to individuals. A typical entry shows date of transaction, name of grantee, lot number, district number, section number (Cherokee only), county in which lot was located, and amount of grant fee. For the headright area, date of transaction, name of grantee, number of acres, county in which land was located, and grant fee are all given. In the testimonial sections, the date of entry, number of testimonials given, and fee charged ($2.50) each are depicted. For the list of fees paid for copies of grants, the date of entry, number of copies, and fee charged ($.75 each) are shown. None of the entries in these books is alphabetical, nor has an index been prepared for any of the books. All data are recorded chronologically as the fees were collected.

Haynes." There is some indication that at least one of these volumes was a part of the records of the comptroller general, 1842. ...
