Diary, 1863 June 20-1865 April 7.

Clarke began keeping this diary just before the Battle of Gettysburg where he was wounded and taken prisoner and sent to David's Island in New York harbor. He comments on the death of Albert H. Good whose sister Clarke was later to marry. Clarke lists the names of 7th Virginia Infantry prisoners of war on David's Island. After a prisoner exchange, Clarke's company was sent to North Carolina in February 1864 and to Petersburg, Virginia in May 1864. He details troop movements around Richmond near Cold Harbor, Seven Pines, and Drewry's Bluff in 1864 and 1865. Clarke also mentions a religious revival in camp, and desertions.
