The volume opens with illustrations of two horses, a sun, and a moon, all done in a folk art style. The remainder of the manuscript consists of pages of music bars with notes, titles in block letters, and decorative borders with birds, flowers, leaves, hexagons, and other fraktur style designs. Most of the headings are place names. One entitled "The hand" shows a decorated hand with musical notes on each finger. Another page lists all the musical letters in a scale.
