[1] Nov. 14, to Lord Byron : Asks him to send 100 guineas for passage to England; addresses and sealed but not sent. Pp. 2-4 used by Clarke on Nov. 24 to write a poem, "Farewell to Mary", on his separation from his wife. [2] Nov. 22, to Mary Augusta Brundage Clarke [his wife]: Pleads with her to return to him after deciding on a separation; considers her family responsible for the break. [Ms. note at head of text: "Letter of M'Donald Clarke on separating from his wife, (formerly Mary Augusta Brundage of the Park Theatre.) Presented to C. D. Stuart, Esq. by J. H. Ray[?], M.D."].
