Lyndon Baines Johnson, also known as LBJ, was born on August 27, 1908 at Stonewall, Texas. He was the first child of Sam Ealy Johnson, Jr., and Rebekah Baines Johnson, and had three sisters and a brother: Rebekah, Josefa, Sam Houston, and Lucia. The president was the chief executive officer of the convention. He presided at sessions of the convention and Committee of the Whole, exercising all usual duties and powers of a presiding officer. The president appointed the chairpersons and members of all committees.
