The series is arranged alphabetically by subject. Significant topics discussed include "Operation Sail '76," in which sailing ships from other countries visited several U. S. ports during the Bicentennial; "How You Comin', Alabama," a multimedia project presented to schools and civic organizations across the state promoting Bicentennial activities; various programs aimed at school children such as the Bicentennial Reading Program and the Johnny Horizon Cleanup Program; and the Bicentennial Publication Program, which provided funds to the University of Alabama Press to reprint out-of-print books and publish new works on Alabama history. Local Bicentennial activities such as beauty contests, tours, and historical reenactments are well documented and are arranged alphabetically by name of the community. Also included are numerous newsletters and computer printouts from BINET, the Bicentennial Information Network, a national database operated by the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration in Washington, D.C., that made information available to the states and territories about Bicentennial activities throughout the nation.
