Speech in Answer to that of the Six Nations, 1776 May 12.

Schuyler delivered this speech to the tribes of the Iroquois Six Nations as a response to a previous speech by them accusing the United Colonies of taking agressive action against them. Schuyler explains that these actions were misinterpreted by the Indians and were merely actions taken against the British forces. Schuyler makes a particular point, when addressing the Mohawk Indians, of explaining his move on Johnstown as an effort to disarm Sir John Johnson. He points out that Johnson had cannon and other arms at his disposal to use against the colonists.
