Cotton brokerage records, 1849-1867.

The Boykin, Myers, Murrell, and Hallet company records consist of bound volumes and letterbooks. The bound volumes include a variety of financial information about the company's operations such as the amount of cash disbursed and received as well as the prices of different grades of cotton. Two letterbooks contain correspondence between cotton merchants and their business contacts about the price of cotton. They also include opinions on the political and economic situation in the South during the secession crisis of 1860-1861 and during the early days of the Civil War. Many of these letters are in Spanish and are addressed to Havana, Cuba; Madrid, Spain; and Cadiz, Spain.
