"In all cases, except treason and impeachment, the governor has power,. . ., to grant reprieves, commutations, paroles, and to remit fines and forfeitures. . ." (Ala. Code, Chapter 202, Section 5127 [1923]). In 1901, by authority of the Constitution, Article V, Section 124, the Attorney General, Secretary of State, and State Auditor were named members of an advisory Board of Pardons which assisted the governor by submitting written opionions regarding the granting of paroles, pardons, and revocations. In 1935, the Board of Pardons was succeeded by the Parole Bureau. This series consists of receipt stubs for the granting of a full pardon. Information on these receipts includes the receipt number, the name of the prisoner, county, date convicted, crime, sentence, date paroled, and date granted full pardon. These records were created during the administrations of Governors Benjamin Meek Miller (1931-1935), Bibb Graves (1935-1939), and Frank M. Dixon (1939-1943).
