While a member of the Forty Ninth Virginia Infantry, W.O. Johnson served in the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania campaign. He relates herein taking "deliberate aim" at an enemy officer with his rifle twice only to have the weapon malfunction and, ultimately, he was shot and captured.
