This collection contains various papers of two families in Bedford County, Virginia. Twelve letters during the Civil War are from John C. Wilkerson to his parents, one from Stephen F. Jennings to his sister Rachel, and others from Millie M. Wilkerson to Sally, and B. Rufus Patterson to his sister Bettie. Also included are receipts (1855-1892) for J.W. Jennings, James Jennings, Jr., W.O. Wilkerson, C.H. Wilkerson, and Mrs. Rachaele Wilkerson; deeds (1797-1844) for land in Bedford County involving Owen and Catherine Wilkerson, Owen Wilkerson, Jr., William Trigg, Jr., John Williams, Joseph Wilkerson, Lewis and Elizabeth Wingfield, William L. Wilkerson, and John Ashwell, Sr.; a land grant to James Boyd in 1780 signed by Thomas Jefferson; a land survey for J.W. Jennings; an 1869 summons for William L. Wilkerson to appear in court; three promissory notes (1860, 1864, 1866) involving William L. Wilkerson and A.A. Bell, H.C. Wilkerson, and Nicholas O. Markham; a 1919 postcard from Jim H. Jennings in France to aunt, Mrs. J.C. Jennings; and a recipe for warts and corns.
