Conjugate leaf with file note].--Secretary of State Clay informs Providence merchants that a commercial regulation by the Peruvian government has been brought to the President's attention. [2] 1839, September 14, to Cashier of the Bank of the United States [1 l.].--Requests a statement of his account with the Bank of the United States. [3] 1843, August 15, to James Simpson [2 p.].--Clay denies that either he or the Whig Party is anti-Catholic. He does not advocate repeal of naturalization laws. [4] 1848, June 16, to David Graham [2 p. and typed copy].--Marked "Private and confidential." Clay comments on the results of the Whig convention of 1848 where he failed to receive nomination for President.
