Papers, 1783-1843.

A large collection of personal, family and business papers of Lansing and his wife, Helen Ten Eyck. The Lansings and Ten Eyck's were large, extended families descended from the early Dutch settlers of Albany and the Hudson and Mohawk Valleys. These papers reflect the extensive involvement that these families had in property ownership, government and commercial affairs in New York Colony and State. Included in the papers are assessment rolls for most of New York State between 1779 and 1802. Also included are quitrent accounts between 1762 and 1770; Ten Eyck and Lansing family correspondence; a significant number of papers dealing with the disposition of forfeited land during the American Revolution, accounts of land sold at public auction and several hundred individual land patents for lands throughout New York State. Of particular interest are several hundred receipts for goods and services purchased by Gerrit Lansing between 1820 and 1854 for food, clothing, blacksmith work and other domestic items.
