In 1969 a survey was conducted by State Library staff of records held at the Elm Street Garage in Albany, also known as "the cage" for the Library for the Blind. Staff recommended the records (300 boxes comprising records of the Department of Public Instruction, ca. 1953, and some plates of Museum publications) be transferred as archival to the State Library and moved to the library warehouse, or elsewhere. Sidney Lewis Jones was born on September 23, 1933 in Ogden, Utah. He received a B.S. in Economics from Utah State University in 1954, and an M.B.A. and Ph.D. from Stanford University, 1956 to 1960. He served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps, 1954 to 1956. He was a professor of finance at Northwestern University (1960-1965) and the University of Michigan (1965-1969, 1971-1972).
