Amy Lowell (1874-1925) was born in Brookline, Massachusetts. Her brother, Abbot Lawrence Lowell, was president of Harvard University. At age 36, Lowell had her first poem published in the Atlantic Monthly. In 1912, her first book of poems, A dome of many colored glasses was published. She became associated with the Imagists poets when Ezra Pound, whom she had met on a trip to England, included one of her poems in his anthology, Des imagistes. James Augustus Aloysius Joyce was born on February 2, 1882, in Rathgar, a borough of Dublin, Ireland, the eldest of ten children who survived infancy. In 1888 he was enrolled at Clongowes Wood College, a Jesuit boarding school near Dublin, where he stayed until 1891. Thereafter he attended Belvedere College, and then University College, Dublin, where he graduated in 1902 with a major in Italian.
