From 1837 to 1919 the Board of Education had general supervision of public schools and normal schools (later called teachers colleges) in Massachusetts. Series consists of letterpress copybooks of the board secretary's outgoing correspondence, generally in response to inquiries of school committee members, teachers, and town officials concerning laws and regulations governing education in Massachusetts.
