This collection of papers contains material that deals primarily with Bookstaver's law practice. Included are printed court calendars for Ulster County, account books of Bookstaver's law practice, deeds and other land title papers, correspondence from Bookstaver's law office, and notes regarding the right of way through Saugerties of the New York West Shore and Chicago Railway Company. The papers also contain material of a more personal nature including printed programs for various entertainments, bank account books, and personal letters to Bookstaver.

Rutgers was first chartered in 1766 as Queen's College, the eighth institution of higher learning to be founded in the colonies.
