David A. Ogden was born in Morristown, N.J. He attended King's College (Columbia University) and later became a lawyer. David A. Ogden was a U.S. Congressman representing the 18th district of New York State from 1817-1819. He served as a legal advisor, along with his brother Thomas L., to the Holland Land Company, which was involved in land speculation and settlement in western New York.
