Papers, 1781-1813.

A collection of letters to and from Parker dealing with his mercantile activities. Included are letters between Parker and customers, ship masters and other merchants. Several of the letters deal with trade between colonial port cities and European ports. These letters include instructions to ship captains, lists of cargo to be picked up or delivered and bills for shipping. Other letters deal with the supply of American troops at West Point and Fort Herkimer during the last years of the American Revolution.

In response to the expansion of the Continental Army the number of staff was increased and reorganized in 1776. Changes included the creation of a new unit to supplement George Washington's personal staff. This special unit, the Commander in Chief's Guard, was formed on March 12, 1776 with Captain Caleb Gibbs (formerly adjutant of the 14th Continental Regiment and appointed Aid to Major General Greene) as commander.
