August Belmont letter, 1863 Sept. 10.

The letter, written to William Sprague (1830-1915), the governor of Rhode Island, recommends the promotion of Captain William J. Slidell, giving an account of Slidell's war record and commending him for his resistance to inducements to join the Confederate Army under the patronage of his uncle, John Slidell.
