The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence to Anna Maria Jennings from family members (1830-1918). Personal letters of Alfred Hennen are written from Philadelphia and New Haven to his sister, Eliza Hennen, and his father, Dr. James Hennen, and concern religious matters (1803-1823). Correspondence to Needler R. Jennings includes letters from Alexander Dimitry, historian and educator (1851-1856); a letter from L. Agassiz, apparently the Swiss scientist and educator, regarding a lyceum engagement (1852); letters from Pierre Soule, U.S. senator and minister to Spain (1853-1863); and a letter from General Leonidas Polk commending him on his services (1862). Most Civil War correspondence is addressed to members of the Jennings family. Documents include a pardon of Anna Maria Jennings, signed by Andrew Johnson, which entitled her to own property (1866), a testamentary document of Needler R. Jennings (1863), a bound volume of essays by Needler, and the Italian passport of Anna Maria Jennings. Printed pamphlets include discourses and sermons by Rev. Benjamin M. Palmer, and two stories, "Dominic You," and "Huascar" by Louisiana author Octavius N. Ogden. Included are an unidentified photograph and genealogical records of Rev. Henry Smith and the Ogden family.
