Account book, 1845 March-1847 Dec., 1876-1883.

Records Brown's expenses in China with occassional references to those of his travelling companions, R. Cole, Jno. Lloyd, Hepburn, and Rev. A.P. Happer. Several pages concern the Amoy Mission and there is much mention of Hong Kong and Macao. A variety of expenses is represented including costs associated with washing, boat trips, furniture, boarding, teaching, loans to Chinese, freight, postage, printing, accessories, food, binding, etc. There were also purchases Chinese prints and books relating to learning the Chinese language. After 69 pages, the manuscript stops in 1847 to be taken up again in 1876. The next 15 pages appear to be accounts of money borrowed, repaid, and spent by one of Brown's children. The remainder from 1876 to 1883 contain the accounts of Brown and his wife, Marian.
