Notes and receipts, 1805-1849.

Consists of G.W. Perkins' invoices, receipts, and financial notes from 1805 to 1849, recording the purchases of a full range of domestic products and personal activities. It included such diverse things as a two year record of bread purchases and receipts for items sent from Augusta, Me. to Boston. Perkins bought items at auctions on a fairly regular basis. Paymets rendered for his services in land deals are also well represented in the volume. Receipts from various types of local stores are present as well. The volume opens with the phrase: "These papers give an idea of what it cost to live a hundred years ago."

George W. Perkins lived in Bridgewater, Ma., Boston, Ma., and Augusta, Me. He was involved with many surveying activities and land transactions in Maine.
