The collection provides extensive documentation of A. Harry Passow's multi-faceted professional work. Included are records of his teaching and departmental leadership at Teachers College. Major series comprise records of educational research and development projects such as the Talented Youth Project (1952-1965) and the study of the Washington, D.C. school system (1966-1967), as well as Passow's participation in national educational organizations. His extensive publications are represented by manuscript and final versions and his wide professional contacts are reflected in correspondence files. Notable also are two smaller series consisting of materials relating to Hollis Leland Caswell, first chair of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching and President of Teachers College from 1955 to 1964; and files related to Passow's work in Israel.

A. Harry Passow was Professor of Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, from 1952 to 1991 and was named Jacob H. Schiff Professor of Education in 1972. He served as chair of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching (1968-1977) and as director of the Division of Educational Institutions and Programs (1975-1980).
