Falconer Madan (1851-1935) was born in Cam, Gloucestershire, on 15 April 1851. He was educated at Marlborough, 1864-1870, and Brasenose College, Oxford, 1870-1875, where he was a fellow, 1876-1880 and 1889-1912.
