This subseries documents "Art of Photography: 1839-1989" (February 11 - April 30, 1989), an exhibition organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Royal Academy of Art with the Australian National Gallery in 1989. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of photography's invention, curator Daniel Wolf, Mike Weaver (Oxford University) and Norman Rosenthal (Royal Academy of Art) designed a survey of photographic history, featuring 462 works by 90 European and North American photographers. The exhibition opened at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (February 11-April 30, 1989) traveled to the AustralianNational Gallery (June 17-August 27, 1989) and closed at the Royal Academy of Art (September 22-December 23, 1989). A smaller version of "Art of Photography" traveled to the Sezon Museum of Art, Tokyo, but was not under the jurisdiction of the MFA, Houston. The exhibition files include checklists, extensive condition reports, conservation notes, installation plot plans, as well as records related to the exhibition catalogue, insurance and shipping arrangements, loans, publicity, and the Australian and English venues. Records include exhibition files from the Office of the Registrar, the Curatorial Department, and the Director's Office.
