One volume of Maryland accounts, represented by J.S. Gittings, Commissioner of Loans, with Baring Bros. & Company of London which acted as the agent for the state in foreign loan matters. Pages 1 through 9 list amount of money received from various Maryland sources to pay interest accrued by stockholders. Pages 125-135 list interest and dividends paid to individuals. Entries include the ate, reason paid and the amount earned. Amounts are listed in pounds sterling.

The Laws of 1834, chapter 279 authorized the governor (with consent of the Council) to appoint the president of a Baltimore bank as Commissioner of Loans. The Commissioner was responsible for overseeing the existing state stock as well as future stock issues.
