Philip Hicky and family papers, 1769-1901 (bulk 1769-1835).

Collection is comprised of official papers pertaining to the West Florida controversy and the Battle of New Orleans; correspondence; personal papers of Philip Hicky; papers of Daniel Hicky, including family and business correspondence; memorandums; and a Spanish ordinance and instructions concerning wills. Papers also contain French military orders and letters from Carlos de Grand-Pre (1801-1806); some letters concern the Kemper rebellion. Some correspondence pertains to members of the Morgan or Mather families. A letter file book compiled by a descendant of the Hicky family contains letters and documents pertaining to Philip Hicky and other family members. The collection includes Walsh and Morgan family genealogies (1888, 1901), a photograph of Philip Hicky (1859?), recipes, and notes on cookery and social customs by Lavinia Morgan Drum.

Philip Hicky was the son of Daniel Hicky, a planter in the District of Manchac, West Florida, Louisiana. Philip Hicky operated several large plantations including Hope Estate Plantation. As captain of cavalry in the Spanish militia, he was active in the West Florida Rebellion (1810). During the War of 1812, he served as a colonel in the 11th Regiment, Louisiana Militia.
